Kerr has always been a supporter of gun control laws and during his speech said that he has become tired of politics not doing anything to change the situation in the United States.

"When are we going to do something?", Kerr said trying to fight back the tears, "I'm tired of being up here trying to offer condolences to the devastated families that are out there. I'm tired of the moment of silence, enough! There are 50 senators who refuse to vote on gun control legislation, it has been sitting there for two years, and there's only reason they don't vote on that legislation: to hold on power".

"So I ask all you senators who refuse to do something regarding the school shootings, the violence, I ask you: are you going to put your own desire for power ahead of the lives of our children, our elderly, our churchgoers? Because that's what it looks like", Kerr continued.

During his college years, Steve Kerr lost his father, who was the president of the American University of Beirut, after he was shot in the hallway outside his office.
