In the last season, Sotto played in Australia with the Adelaide 36ers, and he officially declared for the NBA Draft in April.

"Ever since I've started playing basketball, a lot of people have been watching me, especially from the Philippines," Sotto said to Lakers Nation. "I don't really feel pressure anymore. It's more about having fun through the journey, this is what I love to do, so there's not much pressure."

Ronald Mascarinas, the man who financed the Philippines U17 national team at the 2018 World Cup, said that he's really excited about the potential of Sotto for the country.

"We're very excited about Kai Sotto, he's the Yao Ming or the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar of the Philippines," Mascarinas stated. "We would love to see him playing in the NBA, it would be a great pride for us."
