Golden State Warriors star Draymond Green is from the same small town in Michigan - Saginaw. He shared his thoughts on its meaning on his podcast, The Draymond Green Show.

"The head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers, a kid from Saginaw? That's groundbreaking, that's big-time," Green began. "When you come from small places like that, you really grab onto that because ultimately, what you're looking for is hope."

"That's the thing that gets lost when you come from a place like Saginaw, and you don't see much outside of that world when you only see what Saginaw has to offer. What you lose first is you lose hope," Draymond explained. "What a signing like Darvin Ham does, it gives that young kid hope."

The forward also revealed that it brought some memories from childhood.

"I was once that young kid. When Lamar Valley made it to the NFL, it gave me hope. When Jason Richardson made it to the NBA, it gave me hope," the Warriors forward talked about the professional athletes from his hometown. "When Darvin Ham won the NBA Championship with the Detroit Pistons, it gave me hope that I could do that too because those guys come from the same place I come from."

"For me, this is so much bigger, this is so much bigger than some x's and o's or 'oh man, the Lakers hired another coach,'" Green continued. "For me, this is everything because it gives that little kid in my city a different perspective."

"For that kid is Saginaw, dream away, hold on to that hope, continue to chase that dream because, as you can see, it is possible for us too," Draymond told in his podcast. "I know there are times when I don't feel like it's possible, I know there are times when I feel like in Saginaw, that's just all you've got, that's all that's going to be there for you."

"Dream away, kid; that's right there for you."
