Virtus owner Zanetti: 'We'll do everything to be among the top four teams in EuroLeague' / News - Basketnews.com
Massimo Zanetti, the president and owner of Virtus Bologna, spoke to the Italian show 'TRC Bologna' and opened up about the future plans of the team for the upcoming season in EuroLeague and the idea of building a new arena.
Zanetti made it clear that Virtus Bologna are going to fight for the top spots in EuroLeague next season because the ambition is always to be among the best teams in Europe.
"We play to win, always", the owner of Virtus Bologna stated. "Reaching the top four next season it's gonna be difficult but we'll do everything we can to reach that level".
Virtus Bologna currently play in a temporary arena inside the BolognaFiere area but the plan to build a new arena is moving forward, as the owner of the club explained.
"We're getting there", Massimo Zanetti said. "The city has already given us the green light. It'll be an arena with at least 12.000 people capacity and will be our new home with shops and everything that a modern arena requires."
"When you have to host teams like Barcelona or Real Madrid, you want to do it in a nice arena. Bologna is a city that loves basketball and 12.000 people for big matches is definitely our target, we saw what happened for the EuroCup final, our arena was full and we had to reject a lot of requests," Zanetti continued.
He also revealed that the new arena should be opened next year.
"If everything will go according to the plan, we'll have our new arena by September of 2023. After this season we will continue in our temporary arena inside the BolognaFiere area," Zanetti explained.
The owner of Virtus Bologna also talked about the upcoming finals of the Italian league against the rivals of Armani Exchange Milan.
"It'll be a really nice challenge, something that will do good to the Italian basketball", Zanetti explained. "Mister Armani is another entrepreneur who loves basketball and who puts a lot of money in this business and we have to thank him for that."
