The previously reported list of coaches to interview includes assistants Johnnie Bryant of the New York Knicks, Will Hardy of the Boston Celtics, Charles Lee of the Milwaukee Bucks, Joe Mazzulla of the Celtics, and Alex Jensen of the Jazz. Portland Trail Blazers head coach Terry Stotts is expected to go through the process as well.
Stotts and Vogel were previously reported as the leading candidates for the job.
Vogel just ended his 3-year stint with the Los Angeles Lakers and helped them win the 2020 NBA title, however, after missing the playoffs this season with a 33-49 record, Vogel was let go.
In his 11-year career as head coach Vogel also coached the Indiana Pacers for six seasons, from 2010 to 2016, as well as the Orlando Magic for two seasons, from 2016 to 2018, and holds the total record of 431-389.
Terry Stotts had a 9-year career as the Portland Trail Blazers head coach, which ended in 2021. Stotts helped the Blazers make the playoffs 8 years in a row prior to leaving Portland, peaking in 2019 when they made Western Conference Finals. During those 9 years, Stotts accumulated a 402-318 record.
