Forbes recently reported that the Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James has achieved one of his life goals and became a billionaire.

NBA commissioner Adam Silver takes it as a sign of how much the league has grown and become a global factor.

The only other NBA player ever to become a billionaire was Michael Jordan. The difference is that Charlotte Hornets' owner achieved it after retiring, which makes James the first-ever active player to accomplish this feat.

"It's amazing that he can be a billionaire as a current player. I think Michael Jordan became a billionaire as a former player," Silver said on ESPN broadcast before NBA Finals Game 3 between the Boston Celtics and Golden State Warriors.

"It's a proxy of how big this league has become in many ways," added Silver.

LeBron missed this season's playoffs just for the fourth time in 19 seasons. Despite his long career and mileage on the body, James still does not consider retirement and has expressed a wish to play on the same team with his son Bronny James one day.

Despite being already 37 years old, James is still one of the most dominant players on the planet.

Lakers forward have led the league by averaging 30.3 points per game this past season, which is his second-highest point average in his career. James also averaged 8.2 rebounds and 6.2 assists per game.
