"A special day as we cut the ribbon on a new futsal/basketball court funded by Russell Westbrook and his Why Not? Foundation," the Mayor tweeted out following the ceremony. "This new court at Capitol Hill HS in South OKC demonstrates Russ’s continued commitment to the kids of OKC Public Schools and the people of OKC."
"We are so grateful for all Russell Westbrook has done for our city through the years, and we want him to know he’s welcome here anytime," Holt continued. "To make sure Russ can always come back home to OKC, I gave him the Key to the City."
Through his foundation, Westbrook has been an active member of every community he's been a part of. Among others, he donated 650 computers for kids in Houston, gave out Thanksgiving meals for underserved families in the Los Angeles community, and delivered meals to nurses in LA hospital throughout the pandemic.
"For me, it's more about the youth and the community and bringing something like this to public schools in Oklahoma City," Westbrook said after receiving the Key to the City. "I want to continue to support things in Oklahoma City as much as I can. This place for me was home and still is home for me."
