The 39-year-old Brazilian international has spent three seasons on the island, having been an important part of the team's recent success. Huertas will be 41 when his new contract expires.
In the BCL Final Four held in Bilbao, Huertas claimed MVP honors. He finished the final game with 13 points (6/10 2PT, 1/2 FT), 14 assists, 3 rebounds, and 22 EFF. The Brazilian point guard became the first player to tally 10+ assists in the BCL final. He also became the second player to register a double-double in the BCL final after Gediminas Orelik in 2017.
Throughout both Final 4 games, he averaged 15.0 points, 11.5 assists, 3.5 rebounds, and 21.0 EFF.
Since his arrival, Tenerife have added a Basketball Champions League title (2022), an Intercontinental Cup trophy (2021), in addition to reaching the ACB semi-finals and a historic third place (2021). They also made two Copa del Rey semifinals.
To date, Marcelinho has played a total of 159 official games with Tenerife across all competitions, becoming the team's all-time assist leader, both in the ACB League (684) and in the FIBA Champions League (351). Along the way, Huertas has become the second-best passer ever in the ACB (currently he has 2,535 dimes) and the second all-time in the BCL (351).
Huertas confessed to being "very happy" to continue at Tenerife and acknowledged that "it has been a union that has gone very well for the last three years”.
"I still believe in the project and in the team," he added. "Everything I have achieved continues to motivate and challenge me to try to achieve more. We come every day with the same enthusiasm and with the ambition to continue to fight for as much as we can”, he added.
