The sports director of Bitci Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz, Felix Fernandez, announced this Wednesday that the club and Wade Baldwin are advancing towards a new contract.

His one-year deal with the Basques, which was penned on July 10, 2021, has expired.

"Yesterday we announced Jayson Granger's departure. We need one more point guard and we're going to try to renew the contract of Wade Baldwin. We are both on good terms and he wants to stay. We have already expressed our satisfaction with the player.

Baldwin is an extraordinary athlete. It's true that he has had a hard time taking on that role and his personal situation [parenthood] affected him. He has been our leader: if he was playing well, the team was doing better and if he struggled, the squad suffered and I noticed it. He is a very competitive player, who wants to win at any cost, and that makes him a great athlete," Felix Fernandez spoke to the Spanish media.

The 26-year-old Baldwin averaged 13.7 points, 3.5 rebounds, 4.3 assists, and 15.0 PIR over 31 Turkish Airlines EuroLeague games this past season.

The athletic guard arrived at Vitoria after a successful stint in FC Bayern Munich. Baldwin posted 15.3 points, 4.0 assists, 3.0 rebounds, and 13.4 PIR over 27.3 minutes in last season's EuroLeague. He finished among the league's top 10 scorers.

The combo guard was the 17th pick of the 2016 NBA Draft. Baldwin moved to play overseas after two seasons of bouncing between the NBA and the G League.
