EuroCup to expand in London and Paris for the following season / News - Basketnews.com
Arale Weisberg of WallaSport announced the 20-team list that indicates which clubs are set to participate in next season's 7DAYS EuroCup competition.
EuroLeague officially confirmed this list in its press release.
The sheet of squads includes two European megacities, London and Paris, which will have their respective teams in the 2022-23 EuroCup.
This past season, London Lions made their debut in the FIBA Europe Cup but finished their appearance in the second round. Meanwhile, Paris Basketball played only in the domestic league.
The latter club was promoted to the LNB Pro A (first division) for the first time in club history just a year before, after finishing 2nd in the 2020-21 LNB Pro B championship. Paris Basketball has ambitious plans for the future and "want to become the second Paris club behind PSG". The recent rumors about the pursuit of top prospect Victor Wembanyama prove that.
The Ukrainian champs, BC Prometey, are also among the 20 teams. The Ukrainian powerhouse faced difficulties and was forced to relocate due to Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Prometey are preparing to practice and play their home games in Riga, Latvia.
Partizan NIS Belgrade and Valencia Basket are not in the mix of EuroCup clubs for the following year. Both clubs will receive two remaining EuroLeague wildcards.
Comparing this past EuroCup season and the upcoming one, Boulogne Metropolitans 92, Lokomotiv Kuban Krasnodar (expelled), MoraBanc Andorra (relegated to 2nd Spanish division), Partizan (wildcard), Valencia (wildcard), and Virtus Segafredo Bologna (EuroCup winners) will be replaced with Hapoel Tel Aviv, London Lions, Paris Basketball, BC Prometey, U-BT Cluj Napoca, and Pallacanestro Brescia.
The EuroLeague Board had a meeting today and reaffirmed the dismissal of the Russian teams from the EuroLeague tournaments.
