For the first time in the history of Spanish sports, a city achieved two consecutive promotions to the first division of football and basketball on the same day. Girona did it yesterday with a margin of 136 minutes difference.

Michel Sanchez's Girona has defeated Tenerife in the Playoff to return to the First Division of football, while Marc Gasol's Basquet Girona has beaten Movistar Estudiantes to climb to the Spanish ACB after fourteen years.

Gasol played through the injury in the final game of the season to help Catalan city to achieve its dream of advancing to the ACB.

The city did not sleep and held a party celebrating the two teams' success at once.

The previous closest margin of a basketball team and a football team of the same city getting promoted to the highest divisions was 7 days by the city of Las Palmas in 1985.

There were another 4 cases of the same city's both sports teams advancing to the highest division in the same season. Those were: Malaga, Murcia, La Coruna and Donostia.
