Pope Francis had canceled his planned trip to Congo because of his bad knee, but Biyombo made sure the meeting took place.

"If he is not feeling good, he can't get on a plane," Biyombo told theAssociated Press. "I think if he wouldn't go to Congo, I will bring the Congo to him."

The 29-year-old basketball player formed the Bismack Biyombo Foundation in 2016, which has provided scholarships and helped refurbish schools and hospitals within the Congo.

In March, he announced his entire 2021-22 salary ($1.3 million) would go toward building a hospital in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Biyombo is an 11-season NBA veteran, who was drafted seventh overall in 2011 by the Sacramento Kings.

He holds NBA career averages of 5.2 points and 6.1 rebounds over 738 games with the Charlotte Hornets (2011-15, 2018-21), Toronto Raptors (2015-16), Orlando Magic (2016-18), and Suns (2022-present).
