Gustavo Ayon will end his basketball career in a few months. This has been announced by the Mexican player himself in a tweet in which he has not set an exact date but in which he has expressed his intention to organize a farewell game in the coming months.

"Good memories of a life in basketball that will soon come to an end. In a couple of months, when I will make my retirement game, you will see the surprise we have prepared. Tickets will go on sale soon."

Ayon is currently playing with the Capitanes de Arecibo of Puerto Rico with whom he has returned to play in recent days after being away from action for almost a month due to medical problems. The league is very close to the conclusion in which Ayon's team is in first place and would have home-court advantage for the playoffs in order to defend the title that they won last year.

Having celebrated his 37th birthday in April, Ayon started playing profesionally in 2006 with the jersey of Halcones de Xalapa. His NBA experience included four different teams. For the 2014-15 season, he returned to Europe and joined Real Madrid, where he won the EuroLeague title twice (2015, 2018).

Following his five years in Madrid, Ayon moved to Zenit St. Petersburg for the 2019-20 campaign. Then he decided to return to his country, Mexico, with Astros de Jalisco. As it seems, Capitanes de Arecibo will be the last jersey Gustavo Ayon will wear in his professional basketball career.
