In 2017 he took over the Salt Lake City Stars of the G-League for three seasons, being named the best coach of the competition in 2019-2020.
His North American career prompted his return to Europe for Zalgiris Kaunas. In their first season, the Lithuanian powerhouse finished first in the regular phase of the Lithuanian league with 33 wins in 36 matches and won the Lithuanian King Mindaugas Cup, beating Lietuvos Rytas in the final.
"Martin Schiller is still a young coach who is beginning to accumulate some experience at the international level after passing through two competitions as different as the G-League and more recently the EuroLeague and the Lithuanian league with Zalgiris," Zaragoza sports director Toni Muedra commented.
"He has been covering stages, being an assistant, working with lower categories, with young people and training alongside good coaches both in Germany and abroad. In the G-League he was chosen coach of the year and he showed his ability not only as a team coach but also to develop players.
He also did a good job with Zalgiris, a team that offensively played attractive basketball, with some North American influences."
Muedra further emphasized that Zaragoza have hired in Schiller "a coach with room to grow, who comes with great enthusiasm to work and to improve the players. We want him to soak up the club's philosophy, to get to know a competition as demanding as the ACB. He arrives with great enthusiasm and desire to do well."
