Russell Westbrook delivers furious response to NBA analyst for calling him 'Westbrick' / News - Basketnews.com
Russell Westbrook found himself at the epicenter of attention again, amid speculation that the Los Angeles Lakers are tending to waive or trade the nine-time All-Star after one season.
Recently, NBA analyst Skip Bayless reacted to the Lakers selecting Max Christie in the 2022 NBA Draft, who was a poor shooter in college. He referred to Westbrook with a nickname the point guard does not like.
"Lakers acquire a 2nd-round pick, take Michigan State's Max Christie, who shot only 32% from 3 last season. Perfect! He'll fit right in with LeBron and Westbrick," Bayless tweeted.
Westbrook responded to the expert message by saying, "Watch your mouth."
"Yoooo… watch your mouth. Don't say anything here you wouldn't say to my face," the 33-year-old answered to the bitter expression.
Westbrook is a player that has often been criticized during this past season for his poor performances for the Purple & Gold.
A hurtful nickname that people often use for him is "Westbrick". People are modifying his last name to involve the word "brick" which in basketball terms means a badly missed shot.
According to the star guard, chants or social media posts, which include the "Westbrick" nickname, are shaming his real name.
"'Westbrick' for example, to me, is now shaming," he said, referring to a nickname fans call him whenever he has worse performance. "It's shaming my name, my legacy for my kids. It's a name that means, not just to me, but to my wife, to my mom, my dad, the ones that kind of paved the way for me."
Russell Westbrook averaged 18.5 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 7.1 assists with 10 triple-doubles while shooting 44.4 percent from the floor and 29.8 percent from deep in 78 starts.
However, the Lakers were eliminated from playoff contention with a team that did not jell. Further, head coach Frank Vogel was dismissed.
