Even though the club hasn't won a trophy under the new head coach yet, the president of the team, Ostoja Mijailovic, looks ahead into the future as the legendary Serbian club is heading to the highest stage of European basketball.
"The club changed the entire organization. We expected trophies but the ABA League was a little lacking. In the Eurocup, we, unfortunately, lost at the start of the knockout phase," he said in the 60 Minutes with Vlado and Aca show on MaxBet Radio. "That remains behind us because we returned to the EuroLeague after eight years. That will mean a lot for Partizan and for Serbia."
Partizan will return to the Euroleague for the first time since the 2013-14 season through the means of a wildcard. Together with Valencia Basket, they will form the duo which alongside Virtus Segafredo Bologna will replace the Russian clubs in the tournament.
"When we brought Obradovic back, Partizan showed their intentions. We paid the EuroLeague 500,000 euros," Mijailovic explained. "The minimum budget is 7.5 million euros. When we applied, we had to have a way to realize the budget. It will not be easy to raise money for the budget."
"We will play three games a week, we will take more charters than before. I expect more support from the fans to buy tickets and come to the matches," he continued. "We have been solving the budget for all these years since I was in the club, and we will solve it now. Thanks to everyone who helped us, we will fight to have as big a budget as possible this season."
Entering the season, the president of the club did not want to specify the players with which the team is currently talking. However, he sees a clear plan ahead.
"The contracts expire for Rade Zagorac and Nemanja Dangubic as well as for Mathias Lessort and Dallas Moore. We terminated the contract with Rodions Kurucs. We have a very young and promising team. Jam Madar, Tristan Vukcevic, and Balsa Koprivica are the future of Partizan," the president said.
