Previously it was expected that the cap would be set at $122 million with a $149 million luxury-tax threshold.
Instead, the projected luxury tax will increase to $150.267 million and the hard cap will increase to $156.98 million, according to Keith Smith of Spotrac.
Kevin Pelton of ESPN says that the Golden State Warriors losing three potential closeout games on the road in the last year's playoffs have helped to increase the NBA salary cap as the Warriors bring in more money to the league with their home games than about any team in the league.
The Warriors made about $42 million in the six home games in the first two rounds of the playoffs. NBA Finals games are projected to earn the organization about $16 million gross per home game.
