The legendary Spanish player assessed the end of the season, expanded on his feelings in the final stretch, and spoke on what needs to be done in order to improve in the next campaign.
"We were a picture-perfect example at the start of all the competitions. We won the Spanish Cup and finished first in the regular seasons of the EuroLeague and ACB league," Navarro started.
"However, we gradually lost strength in the last stretch of the season, from the EuroLeague playoffs against FC Bayern Munich. From that point, the team went down mentally and physically, losing confidence. We haven't finished with a good feeling and we have to improve things for the next season.
We all have to be self-critical. Not just players, me and the coach, too," spoke the 42-year-old executive.
As stated by the former athlete, talks with the coaching staff have already taken place.
"We have talked to Saras [Sarunas Jasikevicius], the staff, and the players to have more information on what happened and to improve it next year.
Saras is part of our project. We've talked to him that there are things he can step up and he's for sure already thinking about how to do it."
Navarro also touched on the current roster. He expects some changes, as four players (Dante Exum, Brandon Davies, Nigel Hayes-Davis, Rolands Smits) were on expiring deals after the 2021-22 season.
"We will make exciting additions to the team. We will make changes together with the coaching staff, as we have many players on contracts, which are running out.
The continuity of Dante Exum is not ruled out either. He has adapted to the team. He is a player with a good attitude and fans like him. But we have to fix other things to see if everything fits," Barca's GM told the television.
Last but not least, "La Bomba" mentioned the EuroLeague regular-season MVP Nikola Mirotic. According to Navarro, he progressed in clutch game situations and became the unquestionable front-runner of the team.
"I am very happy with Mirotic because he has taken a step forward in the important moments. We want him to be our leader. I also want to include Cory Higgins, who had a difficult year, but people are very happy with Mirotic," Juan Carlos Navarro concluded.
