A former Lithuanian national team head coachDainius Adomaitis has been officially appointed as the new head coach of Alvark Tokyo.
BasketNews reported about this upcoming agreement on June 14.
According to BasketNews sources, Adomaitis signed a 1-year contract with an option to extend it for a further season. Assistant coach Uvis Helmanis will also join Adomaitis' staff in Tokyo.
A 48-year-old was under contract with Neptunas Klaipeda for one more season, but an exit clause was included in his agreement.
Adomaitis was already building a roster for the next Lithuanian basketball league season, but an unexpected offer from Japan changed his plans.
Lithuanian returned to Neptunas in December. He forced Zalgiris Kaunas to a crucial Game 5 in the Lithuanian league quarterfinals.
Adomaitis coached Lithuania national team from 2017 to 2019.
He also has coached Rytas Vilnius from 2018 to 2020. With Rytas, Adomaitis won the Lithuanian Cup and finished second in the domestic league in consecutive seasons.
Adomaitis also had a head coaching experience with Hapoel Jerusalem.
