Which teams have been the highest-spending ones in the last five years? With the amount of money that NBA teams spent increased significantly, the numbers will be even higher in the following season as the cap is expected to increase ten percent from last season and roughly become $123.6 million, per Spotrac.

Previously it was expected that the cap would be set at $122 million with a $149 million luxury-tax threshold.

Instead, the projected luxury tax will increase to $150.267 million, and the hard cap will increase to $156.98 million, according to Keith Smith of Spotrac.

The highest-spending team over the last five years by far is the Golden State Warriors. The San Francisco-based team went over the cap and paid the luxury tax each of those five years.

Over those five years, the Warriors had spent roughly $757 million, each of the past two seasons spending around $170 million, which is a massive growth compared to the 2017-18 season when the team spent $137 million, which was the highest spent amount by any team that year.

Second on the list of the highest spending team is the Miami Heat, which spent roughly $682 million over the last five years. Los Angeles Clippers come in third, spending $671 million.

Fourth is the Brooklyn Nets, who almost doubled the spending this previous season compared to the 2017-18 season. This previous season spent approximately $176 million, the highest by any team ever. The Milwaukee Bucks round out the top five highest spenders of the last 5 seasons by spending roughly $652 million.

The lowest spending team over the last 5-year period was the Dallas Mavericks, spending approximately $510 million.

While the Oklahoma City Thunder over the last five years were in the middle of the pack in the NBA on how much they spent, strangely, this past season, their $71 million payroll is the lowest by any team in the last five years, despite thatthe salary cap has increased since, as did the average amount of how much teams spend.
