Pablo Laso's dismissal as Real Madrid's head coach has inspired a lot of talk in European basketball circles.

When the Spanish club announced the long-time coach's departure from the club, Jaycee Carroll, who spent 10 years with the club, many of them with Laso, shared his disappointment with a comment under the team's Instagram post.

"It should be a personal decision for Pablo and his family with their doctors. If Laso's family knows the risks and wants to continue, perfect, Pablo on the bench in September," Carroll wrote in Spanish.

Primarily, the Real veteran's main issue apparently is with the club basing the decision purely on the coach's medical condition. The decision was made "solely and exclusively for medical reasons", the club stated.

"After the heart attack that our coach suffered a few weeks ago, Real Madrid has made several consultations with doctors and cardiology specialists, and all of them have expressed the obvious risk to his health that continuing as the squad's coach at this time entails," the club's official statement noted.

Pablo Laso has been a head coach of Real since 2011. During his long tenure in the Spanish capital, he won the EuroLeague title twice in 2015 and 2018 and navigated the squad to six Spanish league trophies, six Spanish Cups, and six Spanish Super Cups.

Assistant coach Chus Mateo is expected to continue as the club's head coach.
