Former Galatasaray and Olympiacos big man Patric Young said he is preparing for "the toughest battle in his life" as he recovers from serious injuries sustained in a car crash in Nebraska, according to EU Jacksonville.

"Mentally, emotionally, and spiritually, I feel great. All of my injuries will heal but that will just take time and working through some pain," Young said in a series of text messages Monday to the Times-Union. "The ultimate question is what is my full recovery going to look like."

The Yankton Daily Press & Dakotan, citing information from Knox County Sheriff's Office, reported the crash as a single-vehicle rollover late Wednesday morning west of Verdigre, Nebraska.

Young is currently receiving treatment at a trauma center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

The 30-year-old did not elaborate on specific details regarding his injuries but told the Times-Union: "This is going to be the toughest battle in my life. I've had two separate knee infections [in previous years while playing professional basketball in Europe] that I had to relearn how to walk from. Yes, this is a different fight, but mentally I am prepared for whatever may come."

Young also said that his mother, who is an intensive care unit nurse, and his sister, who works in physical therapy, are also with him during his recovery.

"I will for sure be living an independent life through strenuous recovery," he told.

After going undrafted in the 2014 NBA draft, Young joined the New Orleans Pelicans for the 2014 NBA Summer League but was waived by the team before appearing in an NBA game for them.

Later, he moved to Europe and represented Galatasaray Istanbul (2014-15), Olympiacos Piraeus (2015-17), and Scandone Avellino (2018-19).

The 2.08-meter (6 ft 10 in) Patric Young averaged 5.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 8.5 PIR in 52 EuroLeague career games with the Turkish and Greek powerhouses.

His most unlucky season overseas came in 2017-18. Young signed with Olimpia Milano, but six months later, was released by the Italian powerhouse without making a single appearance for the club due to injuries.
