Olympiacos Piraeus seem ready to fill the gap caused by the departure of Tyler Dorsey, who will most probably sign his new NBA deal with the Dallas Mavericks in the next few days.

Coach Giorgos Bartzokas has chosen former UNICS Kazan and Galatasaray shooting guard Isaiah Canaan for the part. According to bwin SportFM radio and Nikos Zervas, the two sides are at an advanced stage of their negotiations and the one-year deal of the ex-NBA player with the Greek champs is considered almost done.

Canaan had been rumored as Olympiacos' first choice in case Dorsey decided to leave, either for Fenerbahce Istanbul or the NBA.

The 31-year-old was selected with the 34th pick in the 2013 NBA draft by the Houston Rockets and spent seven seasons in the NBA, playing 235 games across 21 minutes on the court. In his best campaign with the Philadelphia 76ers in 2016, he averaged 11.0 points in 77 games (39 starts).

After ending the 2019-2020 season with the Stockton Kings in the NBA G-League, Canaan moved to Europe for the first time with UNICS and left the club upon the suspension of Russian teams from EuroLeague Basketball competitions to join Galatasaray NEF in Turkey.

In his two seasons with UNICS Kazan, the undersized guard reached the EuroCup finals in 2021, while making his EuroLeague debut, averaging 11.8 points on 41% from behind the arc.
