"I have already told the president [of the Federation, Jorge Garbajosa] and as captain I had to give my opinion," said Fernandez.
"It doesn't seem right to me. I found out from the press that they had nationalized that player, who had no link with the country," added the Real Madrid player.
"I had the reference of having played with [Nikola] Mirotic and with [Serge] Ibaka", continued Fernandez.
"They are foreign players, but they have been trained in a Spanish youth academy since they were very young and in that sense they had a special bond with our country," Fernandez explained.
Fernandez has also mentioned to the dismissal of Pablo Laso as the head coach of Real. The coach wanted to keep his position after overcoming a heart attack, but Madrid rejected that possibility citing medical reasons.
"The club made that decision and we have to respect it," said Fernandez
"Pablo had a heart attack at the end of the season and he, perhaps, saw himself as having the chance to continue, but Madrid didn't see it that way," added the 37-year-old.
"We are club people. Madrid is above all, whether you are a legend or not, in the end we are athletes who owe ourselves to the club," Fernandez concluded.
