The 30-year-old Italian international fell on his back to the floor from a height of four meters, in the presence of his brother Stefano and some of his friends who witnessed the scene. Gentile was immediately transported by helicopter to the hospital in Palma de Mallorca.
At first, a rumor had spread that his condition was worrisome, but Gentile himself reassured everyone from the hospital that "it's not very serious."
"I'll come to Italy for treatment. I thank everyone who has had a thought or a message for me and I'm sorry you were worried," the player posted on his Instagram account.
According to Gazzetta dello sport, Gentile suffered some fractures to the vertebrae. That's why he will be transported to Naples tomorrow morning where he will have to undergo surgery. However, it seems that there is no danger for his career, apart from him taking a mandatory long break.
The Spanish authorities are still investigating the matter.
Gentile played in Olimpia Milano from 2011 to 2016, winning two championships (2014 and 2016), an Italian Cup (2016) and an Italian Super Cup (2016).
Later on, he wore the shirts of Panathinaikos (2016), Hapoel Jerusalem (2017), Virtus Bologna (2017-2018), Estudiantes Madrid (2018-2019), Aquila Trento (2019-2020), before re-joining Estudiantes Madrid (2020-2021), Pallacanestro Varese (2021-2022) and finally that New Basket Brindisi last season.
As of now, he's a free agent.
