Luka Doncic comments on Laso's dismissal from Real Madrid: 'I think it's unfair' / News - Basketnews.com
Luka Doncic visited Paris this past weekend, attending the famous Quai 54, considered the biggest streetball event in the world, in which the star of the Dallas Mavericks has been the main attraction.

Doncic, shortly before leaving for Croatia to enjoy a two-week vacation, gave an interview to Marca, where he talked about the NBA season with the Dallas Mavericks, the upcoming EuroBasket and the tribulations at Real Madrid.
"We had expectations at the beginning because you always play to go as far as possible. The truth is that we have had a very good season. I always want more, I want to win the ring and I hope I get it," Doncic said initially.
The three-time NBA All-Star is not willing to look for the chance to win the NBA ring elsewhere. "My goal is to stay and win it in Dallas," he firmly replied.
Doncic thinks that the Warriors "have been the best team. They have a great team and they will always be dangerous," he stressed.
"In the NBA, I think they look more at the rings and what you have won. Records are fine, but winning is the most important thing," he added.
The conversation got more interesting when the subject became Real Madrid, with Pablo Laso being essentially forced to leave the team after eleven years.
"I cannot understand what happened. Pablo is a great coach and an excellent person. I think it shouldn't have been like that," Doncic commented.
Asked whether he considers Laso's dismissal unfair, the Slovenian guard said "yes, yes, of course. There are a lot of people who think like that because of everything Pablo has given for Madrid after 11 seasons. I think he is the best coach Madrid have ever had, for sure."
However, Doncic maintains that Laso's successor and former assistant, Chus Mateo, can be successful. "I think it will go very well. He's a great guy and he's going to do just fine."
Right now, Slovenia look like the team to beat in the Eurobasket. But Doncic doesn't think that way.
"There are many teams with a high level, with great players. It's a short championship and anything can happen. It will be very difficult. Apart from Spain, there are teams like Serbia, France, Lithuania, Greece...
Spain is in full generational renewal. They used to have incredible players like Ricky (Rubio), Chacho Sergio Rodriguez), the two Gasols (Pau and Marc), Felipe Reyes and there were also (Sergio) Llull and Rudy (Fernandez). Many of them are gone and a new generation is entering."
