The Nets star belongs to the Brooklyn team since 2019. The 33-year-old forward still has a 4-year $192.4 million contract, which runs after the 2025-26 season.
Silver reacted to Durant's trade request by saying that he would prefer for focus to be on the play.
"We don't like to see players requesting trades," said Silver.
"I would love the focus to be on the play", added the commissioner.
Silver also commented on the plans to change the NBA's age limit.
"I think there's an opportunity [to change it]," Silver said.
"It's [based on] larger conversations than just whether we go from 19 to 18," Silver explained.
"When I balance all of these various considerations, I think that would be the right thing to do," added the commissioner.
Silver gave the timeline of when the changes could be expected.
"I am hopeful that that's a change we make in this next collective bargaining cycle, which will happen in the next couple years," said Silver.
