Ever since Partizan NIS Belgrade was taken over by the current club's president Ostoja Mijailovic in 2017, the team has been battling debts.

"Partizan has been struggling with tax debts for the past 20 years," Mijailovic said for Serbian news outlet 24sedam. "As you know, I inherited a tax debt when I came to Partizan, as well as many debts to the club's players and workers, which have been paid to this day. Now we are working intensively on solving the remaining tax debt."

"Partizan's tax debt at the moment amounts to 649.7 million dinars (around€5.5 million)," the president explained the situation. "The solution to this problem would be to conclude an agreement with the state on the reprogramming of this debt. As collateral, we will offer very valuable agricultural land located in the north of Serbia, and we are already working hard on it."

Club rivalry is always a sensitive topic in Serbian sports. This interview was not an exception as Mijailovic took a jab at Crvena Zvezda mts Belgrade about the club paying off its debts a decade ago.

"First of all, when it was done, let's be honest, this government was not in power! So someone who was in power then gave the privilege to Crvena Zvezda. I'm not asking that for us," Mijailovic told in a fiery manner.

"In the coming days, in coordination with the state, we will implement this work," he talked about offering the land. "With that land, which is more valuable than the tax debt that Partizan has, we will guarantee that through the reprogramming, we will pay the tax debt on time."

Partizan came back to the EuroLeague for the first time in 8 years this season. Their first match of the 2022-23 season will come on October 7th against ALBA Berlin. As reinforcement, the club has recently signed Dante Exum and James Nunnally.
