Alex Caruso isn't one of the NBA's most outspoken player. However, during a recent appearance on JJ Redick's 'Old Man and the Three' podcast, he did not hesitate to make a controversial take on Giannis Antetokounmpo.

The best defensive teams in the league struggle to gameplan for Giannis, they have to resort to building walls with multiple players to keep him out of the paint. Alex Caruso has established himself as a key role player in the league, he is a champion himself with the Lakers in 2020, and a large part of his success has been thanks to his defensive tenacity.

For the Bulls' point guard, no matter the rules, the Greek Freak always finds the way to get away with offensive fouls. He explained it in the podcast, talking about the playoff series between his Bulls and the Milwaukee Bucks.

"The Bucks kicked our a** physically, and it was even worse when they managed to find their stride collectively, they ran into us," he admitted.

The difference in experience also makes the difference in the series. And then the referees don’t call any offensive fouls on Giannis, it's hard to guard him," 28-year-old Caruso said.

Alex Caruso has played 5 seasons for the Lakers and Bulls. He has averaged 6.2 points, 2.7 assists and 2.5 rebounds in 225 regular-season games. In the five-game series (1-4) against Milwaukee, he averaged 5.0 points, 5.0 assists and 2.8 rebounds on a poor 31% from the field.

Giannis Antetokounmpo has played nine seasons for the Bucks. He has averaged 21.8 points, 9.4 rebounds and 4.6 assists in 656 regular-season games. He was selected to play in 6 All-Star games. He averaged 28.6 points, 13.4 rebounds and 6.2 assists in the five games against the Bulls last April.

Giannis Antetokounmpo is currently in Greece preparing for the EuroBasket which will take place next September. When he will be joining his national team is still to be determined. Having won his first NBA championship in 2021 to go along with a Finals MVP, Giannis is now firmly established in the league.

While discussing a variety of topics, Caruso was asked what the Bulls needed to do to take the next step as a team. He replied, "get healthy, stay healthy," while later adding Andre Drummond to the mix.

"I think we addressed a little bit of our backup 5-role with Drum coming in. Shot blocker, rebounder, finisher around the rim. Give a lob threat to us - that dynamic that we didn’t have last year which I think is important in the league nowadays, having a vertical threat."
