"We want to share news that is very important not only for the current situation of Lithuanian basketball, but also for the future," the general secretary of the Lithuanian Basketball Federation, Mindaugas Balciunas, presented the news.
"We have the consent of Matas Buzelis to represent the national team of Lithuania and his official registration in the FIBA system," Balciunas added.
Buzelis' name is included in the list of the Lithuanian U18 boys' national team. The 18-year-olds coached by Karolis Abramavicius are currently preparing for the European Championship, which will be played in Turkey from July 30 to August 7.
It is true that Buzelis' chances of joining the U18 national team at the European Championship are in doubt, as the young Lithuanian talent is currently participating in the prestigious NIKE Youth Basketball League.
Buzelis will play in the G League after finishing high school in 2023-24. One of the most talented 17-year-olds in the US G League chose to represent the Ignite team.
This upcoming season Buzelis will play for Sunrise Christian's high school team, which is ranked among the top 5 in all of North America.
Until now, the 2.08-meters tall youngster studied at Wolfelboro's Brewster Academy.
