John Holland signed with Crvena Zvezda mts Belgrade this offseason. However, his basketball journey before the EuroLeague season has already begun.

The Serbian team's new addition is currently playing in his home country of Puerto Rico for Cariduros de Fajardo. The story of Holland suddenly playing in July is actually pretty stunning.

"Actually, this is a really crazy story," Holland told Mozzart Sport. "Everyone knows how passionate I am and how much I love basketball. I came to Puerto Rico for vacation. And then the owner of the club convinced me to stay and play for them in the playoffs."

"My plan was to go to Puerto Rico just for the weekend to take a break, and now I'm here playing, we're fighting for the title. I didn't even have enough equipment when I agreed to stay. It was the beginning of the playoffs and I felt that we had a chance to do something special."

The team forced Game 7 in the quarterfinal series against Leones de Ponce two days ago. Game 7 is scheduled to be played tonight.

"I just couldn't resist," Holland said. "I'm a basketball player at heart, I can't resist competing. After all, we only agreed a day or two before I signed with Crvena Zvezda. I didn't even know if I would play in Europe next season."

Holland has played for Cariduros before in 2021. In 2019, he won the league with Santeros de Aguada.

In the 6 matches of the quarterfinal series this season, Holland has been averaging 18.8 points, 4 rebounds, and 2.5 assists. Former NBA and G-League player Terrence Jones is the leader of the team, averaging 32.8 points, 10.3 rebounds, and 2.8 assists in the series.
