Bosnia and Herzegovina is set for a big summer of basketball as the men's national team is scheduled to play in the 2022 EuroBasket while the women's national team has qualified to participate in the World Cup for the first time ever.

However, neither of the teams, senior and youth, might be able to participate in any of the tournaments. The Bosnian Basketball Federation (KSBiH) has shared a statement that highlighted the main issue - a serious lack of funding.

"Considering the huge costs required for appearances at the EuroBasket and the World Cup, we simply cannot close the financial structure," the federation states. "We knocked on many doors, asked for support, but mostly encountered negative answers, often being ignored. This particularly applies to state, entity, and local authorities."

"The situation, to be completely open and direct, is precisely such that the upcoming appearances at the EuroBasket and the World Cup of our national teams are under a big question mark," the statement continues. "There is currently no way out, so the moment is not far when we will be forced to cancel participation in the mentioned competitions."

Bosnia and Herzegovina should play in Group B in EuroBasket against Lithuania, France, Slovenia, Hungary, and Germany. The women's national team is slated in Group A together with China, Belgium, Puerto Rico, South Korea, and the USA.

"Everything has already been tried, no additional options are left on the table. Therefore, we appeal to potential sponsors, especially state, entity and municipal institutions, to help us," the federation writes. "We don't need congratulations when it's all over, because maybe this time you won't even have anything to congratulate us on."
