WNBA star Liz Cambage terminates her contract with Los Angeles Sparks / News - Basketnews.com
The Los Angeles Sparks announced the team has agreed to a contract divorce with center Liz Cambage.
"It is with the support that we share Liz Cambage's decision to terminate her contract with the organization," Sparks Managing Partner Eric Holoman said. "We want what's best for Liz and have agreed to part ways amicably. The Sparks remain excited about our core group and are focused on our run towards a 2022 playoff berth."
Cambage, 30, was originally signed by the Sparks on Feb. 15 as a free agent. The 6-foot-9 center held averages of 13.0 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 1.6 blocks in 25 games this season.
WNBA star's career made a wild twist when Cambage was accused of directing a racial slur toward members of the Nigerian national team during a scrimmage before the 2021 Tokyo Olympics.
Anonymous Nigerian players claim the Australian center called them "monkeys" and told them to "go back to your Third World country" during a closed-door scrimmage.
A four-time WNBA All-Star later announced she was pulling out of the coronavirus-delayed Tokyo Olympics, citing her mental and physical health.
