The 2022 EuroLeague offseason for Real Madrid's star center Edy Tavares is both relaxing and pleasantly busy.

After a long season that ended with a Liga Endesa title in late June, Tavares is currently spending his summer in his home country of Cabo Verde.

Earlier in the month, Tavares hosted his annual basketball camp "Where there is union, there is victory" in his hometown Vila do Maio in Cabo Verde where he invited kids of various ages to participate in drills and teambuilding exercises as well as incorporated kids with disabilities.

Following the camp, Tavares continued getting back to the community he grew up in. Last week, the player opened up a digital classroom in Joao Antonio Cruz Silva Primary School in his hometown, the very facility he attended during his childhood.

It is the third digital classroom in the country. Tavares is an ambassador of local business Izertis which organizes the opening of digital classes. "I want to be able to give back to this country what it has done for me since I was little," Edy said after becoming the ambassador.

During the ceremony, Tavares was interviewed by the local television to give his thoughts about the project.

"With this digital class, the children will have more opportunities in their hands to seek something more on the Internet, they will be introduced to computer science and will be able to take pride in themselves," Tavares said.

Together with providing computers, the classroom was renovated and repainted, new furniture was brought in, a security system was installed as well as electrical outlets. The classroom was also equipped with projectors and air conditioning, all either purchased from or donated by local businesses.

It is estimated that more than 400 children will be able to use the new facilities after training.
