According to Anthony Slater and Marcus Thompson II from the Athletic, Green is certain he commands every penny that the club can offer him.
Draymond is set to make $25.8 million and has a player option of $27.5 million for the 2023-24 season. If he declines it, the forward then becomes an unrestricted free agent next summer.
Sam Quinn of CBS Sports reports that Green is willing to explore options from other teams if the deal with the Warriors is not reached. Besides becoming a free agent, it is not currently clear what the process would look like, though.
If the Warriors were to sign Draymond, it would entail a four-year extension worth $138.4 million, totaling to a staggering $164.2 million over the next five seasons. Green would be 37 years old at the end of the deal.
The Warriors are reportedly unwilling to pay that amount of money. It is worth noting that Stephen Curry has reportedly expressed that the Big 3 of Curry, Green, and Klay Thompson is a package deal that should remain in tact for as long as possible.
The team already has some upcoming deals to make with Jordan Poole and Andrew Wiggins both eligible for extensions this summer. Keeping them for the foreseeable future, who are 23 and 27 years old respectively, would be of higher importance than retaining Green, who is now 32.
Last season, the 4-time NBA All-Star averaged 7.5 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 7 assists per game.
