The player has announced that he is going to open a basketball camp in the city of Jerusalem for Muslim, Jew, Christian, and Druze kids. According to Jerusalem Post, the camp is set to feature top coaches and NBA teams and will teach fundamental basketball skills.

I believe that we can use sports to promote tolerance, respect, and coexistence," said Freedom. "By bringing children together on a basketball court, I know we can show them the importance of respecting people of all faiths while building camaraderie and developing relationships."

I played in the NBA for 11 years as an observant Muslim, shoulder to shoulder with my Jewish and Christian brothers," he continued. "We respected each other’s faith and I learned a lot from them and about them and their faith. I am looking forward to setting a positive example for the children of Jerusalem."

Kanter Freedom is currently a free agent in the NBA. He started the season as a member of the Boston Celtics but then was traded to the Houston Rockets in a package centered around Daniel Theis.

On February 14th, the Rockets waived Kanter Freedom, and the center hasn't been picked up by any team since.

The player is a civic activist who rose to public attention with his opposition to the Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Recently, he was publicly opposed to NBA's relationship with China due to the way the country treats the Uyghur minority. He believes it to be the main reason for him now being a part of any NBA team after getting released.

During his career, Kanter Freedom has hosted numerous basketball camps. In 2019, he created a fundraiser to battle wildfires in Greece.
