Russell Westbrook will reportedly be benched more often next year / News - Basketnews.com
Los Angeles Lakers star guard Russell Westbrook exercised his player option in the contract this summer to remain with the team for one more year.
The franchise has hired a new head coach to lead the squad, Darvin Ham. According to Jovan Buha from The Athletic, Ham will have more leeway to bench Westbrook in the following season.
The journalist reports that, per league sources, the guard can even be removed from the starting lineup at one time.
Last season, Westbrook was benched multiple times by then-coach Frank Vogel due to his performance, which caused a wide discussion among the league fans.
Westbrook, a nine-time All-Star, averaged 18.5 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 7.1 assists with 10 triple-doubles while shooting 44.4 percent from the floor and 29.8 percent from deep in 78 starts last season.
