The Hungarian national team began the cycle of preparatory matches for the upcoming 2023 FIBA World Cup Qualifiers and EuroBasket 2022 by beating Georgia 89-88 (31-24, 16-18, 21-19, 21-27).

The match was tied at 82 with 3 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter when David Vojvoda hit a tough fadeaway jumper to bring the Hungarian national team in front. In the next possession, Kemal Karahodzic blocked Giorgi Shermadini's shot, an episode which Adam Hanga converted into two easy points with a dunk in the fast break.

Even though Duda Sanadze decreased the deficit to just two (84-86),Vojvoda hit a three-pointer immediately afterward. With Tornike Shengelia converting two free throws, the teams were separated by only three points with just under a minute remaining.

The ball was in Hanga's hands but Shengelia proceeded to block a tough Karahodzic's layup. Georgia had 20 seconds to tie the game and bring it to overtime.

Ilias Zouros' men were not allowed to decide the game singlehandedly as Thad McFadden was fouled with 7 seconds to go. After two made free throws, the teams were separated by only one point (88-89). Georgia had to foul.

Although Zoltan Perl missed both of his free throws, Georgia did not have enough time to prepare a shot in the three seconds that were left, Shengelia's shot from way behind the three-point line was no good, and the home team celebrated its first victory in the month of August.

It was the first Adam Hanga's game with the Hungarian jersey since 2017 EuroBasket.

Hungary: David Vojvoda 17, Akos Keller 15, Adam Hanga 13, Szilard Benke 13.

Georgia: Tornike Shengelia 19, Giorgi Shermadini 18, Duda Sanadze 16, Giorgi Tsintsadze 10.
