Hungary and Georgia play an unusual match behind closed doors / News - Basketnews.com
Hungarian national team continues its preparation for the fights in the upcoming EuroBasket 2022's Group B. This time, a friendly match against Georgia was successful for the second time in a row as the opponents were defeated 78-75 (20-24, 11-8, 25-22, 22-21).
Although the first game between the two countries was open for any basketball fan to attend, this match was being held behind closed doors in Kecskemet Messzi Istvan Sports Hall.
As a result, the match featured an unorthodox decision as both teams collectively decided to add 5 minutes at the end of regulation to play just a tad bit more basketball even though the game wasn't tied.
As mentioned, Hungary was victorious after 40 minutes with a result of 78-75. However, after the extra period, Georgia emerged victorious 81-80. A combined result after the two matches between the national teams is an equal 169-169.
The star of the Hungarian roster, Adam Hanga, as well as Akos Keller was sidelined for the game and practiced individually. Hanga, in particular, did not even show up at the Sports Hall.
Neither the Hungarian nor the Georgian basketball federations did not cite any other statistics besides the quarter scores.
Hungary's next match in the preparatory cycle comes against Slovakia, while Georgia's next opponent is Israel. Both matches will be held on Friday, August 12th.
