Nikola Ivanovic expected to miss EuroBasket for Montenegro / News - Basketnews.com
One of the main players of the Montenegro national team is about to miss the EuroBasket 2022, a report states.
According to Montenegrin news outlet Vijesti, the main point guard of the team, Nikola Ivanovic, is not expected to be able to help either during the 2023 FIBA World Cup Qualifiers or during EuroBasket 2022.
The Crvena Zvezda mts Belgrade guard has been suffering from issues with the Achilles tendon, the outlet reports. As a result, he's been undergoing therapy in Munich for the past several days.
Ivanovic is expected to undergo additional tests on Monday to determine his availability for the national team but it is expected that he will miss the World Cup Qualifiers matches against Bosnia and Herzegovina on August 24th and against Lithuania three days later.
The guard is subsequently unlikely to appear in the EuroBasket 2022 either. During the last Qualifiers window in July, Ivanovic averaged 11.5 points and 6.5 assists for 12 PIR for the team during the two matches against France and Portugal.
Although Jonah Radebaugh has been the main point guard throughout the last Qualifiers window and during the first two friendly matches against the Netherlands and Slovenia, his position on the roster is not certain either.
Kendrick Perry, who also has a Montenegrin passport, is expected to arrive on Monday after receiving an extended vacation due to a wedding. As the national team can only bring one naturalized player to both competitions, there will be a battle between the two guards on who will take the lone spot.
