Bosnia and Herzegovina's travel to friendly tournament in question / News - Basketnews.com
The financial problems continue to pile on for the Bosnia and Herzegovina basketball federation.
As previously reported, the country's federation has severe issues with funding which place the participation of all Bosnian national teams in international tournaments at risk. The governing body has now shared an update regarding the situation.
According to the official announcement, the federation received enough funds to send the youth national teams to European championships this summer. A special thank you note is dedicated to the municipalities of Novi Grad Sarajevo and Travnik for 5000 Convertible Mark (~2500€) and 2000 (~1000€) Convertible Mark payments to the federation.
However, the financial issues are far from over, the message states. The men's national team still needs a significant amount of funding in order to participate in friendly matches, the 2023 FIBA World Cup Qualifiers, and EuroBasket 2022.
The federation notes that the funds were promised by the Bosnia and Herzegovina Council of Ministers. The money had to be transferred during the first week of August. As the term has already passed, the consequences are set to follow.
Bosnian national team is scheduled to participate in a friendly tournament in Estonia this weekend, and the federation still doesn't have the money for the team to travel to the two matches against Belgium and Estonia on August 13th and August 14th respectively.
As the deadlines for the settlement of expenses are just around the corner, the prospect of Bosnia and Herzegovina not participating in any of the two major tournaments is getting closer each day, the federation states.
Despite the troubles, the two biggest stars of the team have arrived - Real Madrid's young star Dzanan Musa, who drained a game-winning shot to send the country to the Second Round of World Cup Qualifiers, and Bosnia's biggest star - Portland Trail Blazers center Jusuf Nurkic. Even the naturalized player John Roberson is not backing away from the squad.
Bosnia and Herzegovina is placed in Group B in EuroBasket together with France, Lithuania, Slovenia, Germany, and Hungary. The team is scheduled to face France and Montenegro in the World Cup Qualifiers later in August.
