Tim Donaghy: Netflix releases trailer for NBA referee's betting scandal / News - Basketnews.com
Years after serving time for betting on games he officiated, former NBA referee Tim Donaghy recalled the scandal that shook up the league.
Netflix will revisit the infamous story that rocked the sports world in the late 2000s with an episode for its documentary series Untold. The episode is scheduled to be released on August 30.
A former NBA referee was sentenced to 15 months in prison for betting on games he had refereed.
Donaghy retired from the NBA in 2007 and shortly after several reports emerged about the fact that he had bet on games and tried to control the point spread during several games with his calls.
In June of 2008, Donaghy's attorney had filed a court document alleging that Game 6 of the 2002 Western Conference Finals between Los Angeles Lakers and Sacramento Kings had been fixed by two referees.
Donaghy claimed that in order to increase television ratings and ticket sales, top NBA executives sought to manipulate games using referees. After Donaghy's accusations, though, no evidence against the NBA was found during the trial.
