Dimitris Itoudis: 'Greeks support the national team and we were able to reward them' / News - Basketnews.com

The Greek national team head coach, Dimitris Itoudis, and player Ioannis Papapetrou spoke at the press conference in OAKA after Greece defeated Spain with the final score of 86-70 in the first preparation match for the EuroBasket 2022.

The coach and the player thanked the public for the large attendance at the national team's friendly with Spain.
"Speaking on behalf of everyone, it is touching that 16-17 thousand people came to the stadium in the first ten days of August," said Itoudis.
"It means that the Greeks support the national team and I believe that the team was able to reward them. I don't know every time how the result will be, but we will always give our best," added the coach.
Even though the opponent was serious, and OAKA was almost completely filled with fans, Itoudis said that the team treated this match as friendly.
"We treated the match as a friendly game, tried things we did in training, and put different formations to see where we hurt," said Itoudis.
"We are happy that we had at least 6-7 dives to get loose balls. This should follow us from start to finish and especially when the opponent tries to get back into the game," Itoudis added.
Greece struggled tonight at times when Giannis Antetokounmpo was not on the floor, but Itoudis was not worried about that.
"If he plays 30 minutes like this, we are fine. If you have such a player you should use him. Today he played 20 minutes. But we had good moments even when he wasn't on the court," said the Greek national team coach.
As for whether he is concerned that Giannis Antetokounmpo does not have many assists with the National Team, Itoudis had this to say:
"Assists are the work of two, not one. He [Antetokounmpo] is the one who will pass and the one who will score. Also, the creation is not always about the one giving the final pass. I'm not of that logic and that's not how things are," Itoudis explained.
Forward Ioannis Papapetrou also gave a comment about the game.
"We are very happy to start with this friendly match. I want to thank the fans for the very nice atmosphere," said Papapetrou.
"We took some steps forward compared to our practice sessions. We made a lot of mistakes and there's things we need to improve on, but the will was there," Partizan Belgrade's forward concluded.
