Following today's practices, Gianmarco Pozzecco, the head coach of the Italian national team, announced two departures from the roster, narrowing it to 15 players.
Two young Italian prospects, Gabriele Procida and Matteo Spagnolo, were cut from the national team ahead of the squad's first friendly match on Friday against France. Both players were selected in the Second Round of the 2022 NBA Draft - Procida 36th, while Spagnolo - 50th.
"Gabriele and Matteo have the future ahead of them judging by the crazy talent, also confirmed by the NBA Draft," Pozecco said following the announcement. "I thank them, and these are not words of convenience, for their commitment in these days and for confirming, after what their teammates and staff had told me, that they are also two good guys."
Following the first matchup against France in Bologna on August 12th, the team will then travel to Montpellier to play against the same opponent again.
Italy is placed in Group C of EuroBasket 2022 together with Greece, Croatia, Great Britain, Ukraine, and Estonia.
