The president of Crvena Zvezda Belgrade, Nebojsa Covic commented on the decision of the head coach Svetislav Pesic to remove the long-time captain and one of the best players Milos Teodosic from the Serbian national team.

In an interview with RTS, Covic pointed out that he did not like the way it was done.

"Milos [Teodosic] is our product, a product of FMP, I worked with Pesic a lot, as in the national selections and Zvezda. We didn't need that [cutting Teodosic], the way it was done was bad," said Covic.

"But, the coach has all the rights, we should remember and that some of our selections with great players ended up badly in 2000, 2004 and 2005," Covic recalled.

Crvena Zvezda president believes that the media only harms the national team with their speculations and stories about this case.

"What annoys me is that we are creating instability and a bad atmosphere in the tabloids," said Covic.

"I would ask people to calm down, even though it is an exotic topic, but we will only do damage by doing so. We should all be with the national team and let's make the best possible result," Covic asked of people.

"Let's help them, and we won't help them if we spread the whole story in the press. The way it was done is clumsy and wrong and it opened pandora's box," said Covic.

He also pointed out that it is good that Nikola Jokic returned to the national team.

"The national team is never made up of one player, and each one has its own star, but there must be 12 players who have their own chemistry," explained Covic.

"It's good that Jokic is back, as well as some others. We have to bring back the cult of the national team," added Covic.

"It is important that you go to the NBA, but also to consider that you came from this country, you have an obligation towards it. Some people should remember that," Covic explained.
