Head coach Dimitris Itoudis announced from the first days of Greece's preparation that the squad's three oldest players will take on the honorary role of the captain.

In this vein, the two-time EuroBasket champions have named their three captains in this August and September run that will see them compete in the 2023 World Cup Qualifiers and in the 2022 EuroBasket.

Kostas Papanikolaou will be the one carrying the armband, while Nick Calathes and Kostas Sloukas will accompany him.

Calathes, 33, has 125 appearances with the men's national team, making his debut in 2009 when he was part of the team that won the bronze medal at the EuroBasket in Poland.

Kostas Papanikolaou has 121 participation with Greece, having also made his debut in 2009 but without then being included in the 12-man-squad that flew to Poland.

Kostas Sloukas has 107 appearances, having debuted in 2011, when he participated in the EuroBasket held in Lithuania.
