Ben Simmons reaches settlement with 76ers for his grievance / News - Basketnews.com
After filing a grievance to recoup the money Philadelphia 76ers fined him for not playing in the 2021-22 season, Ben Simmons has reached a settlement with the club.
According to Adrian Wojnarowski from ESPN, the two sides reached an agreement to recoup a portion of last year's salary. The exact amount is said to be confidential.
Up until he was traded, the 76ers fined Simmons $360,000 for every game he missed during the season. Additionally, the organization has fined the player for failing to travel on certain road trips with the team.
The club used to send a notice every two weeks with an explanation of all the fines he has accumulated for failing to render services, instead of a $1.375 million paycheck, reports stated at the time. Overall, the total sum of money amounts to around $20 million.
Simmons missed the entire 2021-22 season. First, he was missing games citing mental health as the primary reason. He was eventually traded to the Brooklyn Nets in a package centered around James Harden.
Although it was expected to see Simmons play alongside Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving, the Australian player never appeared on the court last year, citing back issues as the reason for his absence.
