NBA will not host any games on Election Day in 2022 / News - Basketnews.com
With the NBA season starting in two months, schedule leaks have surfaced on various news outlets. Now, the NBA itself has released a statement about a certain day in the year when no matches will be held.
The league has announced that there are no games scheduled on Election Day, November 8th. Subsequently, all 30 teams will play on November 7th to encourage people to vote.
Midterm elections will be held on November 8th where all 435 US House of Representatives seats will be up for grabs. Many NBA players have been involved in voting registration drives and other get-out-to-vote initiatives.
"The scheduling decision came out of the NBA family’s focus on promoting nonpartisan civic engagement and encouraging fans to make a plan to vote during midterm elections," the league said.
"It’s unusual. We don’t usually change the schedule for an external event," James Cadogan, the executive director of the NBA’s social justice coalition, told NBC. "Voting and Election Day are obviously unique and incredibly important to our democracy."
