Nikos Pappas to join Panathinaikos' training camp / News - Basketnews.com
Next Monday, August 22, Panathinaikos OPAP Athens start their preparation ahead of the next season. Dejan Radonjic and all available players will gather at the OAKA, which is currently used by the Greek national team, for the first time.
Due to the large number of absences in view of the upcoming EuroBasket, the participation of some free agents will be needed in order for the new coach of the Greens to work the way he wants to.
Among those who will be present will be an old acquaintant - Nikos Pappas. Two years after leaving Panathinaikos, the 32-year-old guard will wear the Green jersey again, even if there's no chance of him returning to the squad. At the same time, Pappas will continue the search for his next stop, since he is not bound by a contract for next season.
The former Greek international, who made his only appearance in a big tournament in the 2017 EuroBasket, left PAO in the summer of 2020, following a seven-year stint that included five Greek championship titles and two serious ACL injuries that kept him sidelined for almost 18 months.
Since 2020, Pappas has played with Hapoel Jerusalem, Zielona Gora and AEK Athens. He tore his achilles tendon while playing for Zielona Gora in 2020.
In addition to Nikos Pappas, Panathinaikos will also be joined in their training sessions by veteran big man Zisis Sarikopoulos and guard Giannis Hatzinikolas.
