With the score 49-35 for the hosts and six minutes remaining in the quarter, the captain of the Georgian NT tried to catch the ball. But he went out of balance, slipped and fell on his right shoulder.

Shangelia was unable to return and left the court in tears.

According to the latest info, the player's injury is so serious as to render participation in the upcoming EuroBasket impossible.

The former Virtus Bologna forward, who's still a free agent, was transferred to the hospital right after the incident and the X-rays will reveal the size of the damage. However, it seems more than certain that his shoulder has not just been dislocated, but fractured.

The first estimates of Georgia's medical staff mention that Shengelia will be out for a couple of months, but the official update of the Georgian Basketball Federation is expected on Thursday (Aug. 25).

"Toko's injury is a big shock for us but we will have to manage," coach Ilias Zouros said at the post-game press conference.

Before getting injured, Shengelia helped Georgia snap a six-game losing streak and made up for Sandro Mamukelashvili's bad evening, scoring 20 points on 8/11 FG and adding 4 rebounds.

Georgia play Italy on the road on Saturday night (August 27) in their last game before they host their EuroBasket group in Tblisi which also includes Spain, Turkey, Montenegro, Belgium and Bulgaria.
